Hittade just ännu en kul intervju med Slavoj Žižek. Žižek ger här en sömnig intervju i samband med filmfestivalen i Sarajevo 2008. I slutet av intervjun (3.09), när journalisten ställer en fråga om Sarajevo som symbol för mångkultur, tänder dock Žižek till:Journalisten: Sarajevo is also a symbolic city for multi-culturalism, but you have your own opinion of multiculturalism, haven't you?
Žižek: I think, here, we have had enough of this multicultural ideology which is for me often an inverted racism. Namely, for example when people come here, a typical multiculturalist would say: Oh, I want to understand how you are different.
No , what you should understand is that fundamentally they are not different here. Just different things happened to them. And to make it tolerable for us, who were happy to avoid the war in the west, we made them different.
We need today codes of discretion, not more understanding. I think we should totally reject this liberal blackmail: We should understand each other.
- No, the world is too complex, we cannot! I hate people, I don´t want to understand people. I want to have a certain code where I don´t understand your way of life, and you don´t understand mine, but we can still co-exist.
Vad jag gillar med utdraget ovan är Žižeks, om än något extrema, kritik av den ack så omhuldade föreställningen att kungsvägen till tolerans går via förståelse; detta att min förståelse av den andre ses som ett vilkor för att jag skall kunna tolerera honom.
Visst bidrar kunskap och ökad insikt om den andres historia ofta till ökad tolerans, men denna förståelse har, och måste få ha, sina gränser. Skulle vi till exempel tolerera Hitler om vi bara fick höra hans verison av historien, och därigenom få större förståelse för honom?
Häri ligger det mångkulturella samhällets stora utmaning, som ju är samma utmaning som för all mänsklig samvaro: Vad skall bejakas, vad skall tolereras och vad måste vi säga Nej till?
... och kanske svårast i sammanhanget: Vilka är "vi"?
